Mrs. Ethel Cooksey has retired from the position of Postmistress of Amissville Post Office after serving there for over 28 years. Mrs. Cooksey was appointed acting postmistress on Nov. 20, 1933. At that time the post office was in Latham’s Store.
About 1947 the post office was promoted to third class and moved to its present building.
Roger Welch, Roger Hawkins and David Palmer accompanied by Vo-Ag Instructor C.B. Palmer spent several days last week at VPI at the State FFA Convention.
John L. Wharton, son of Mrs. Frances Wharton of Woodville has completed his basic training at Fort Gordon, Ga. After a brief visit with his mother he will return to Fort Gordon for further assignment with the U.S. Army.
The Ruritan Club of Amissville is sponsoring the organization of a majorette group. Children between the ages of six and 15 are invited to try out for this marching group.
