Thursday, July 4, 2002 will surely come, the Town of Washington will surely be here (though not quite the same as in George Washington’s day), and it might still be possible for us to celebrate Independence Day in this beautiful town.
This 4th of July from noon until 4 p.m. there will be an opportunity for a gentle celebration on the Courthouse lawn in the Town of Washington.
There will be an American flag and perhaps some patriotic music. There will be shade and lemonade all day long. And there will be red, white and blue balloons for children of all ages.
There will be no food other than what neighbors might bring, there will be no entertainment other than what we provide for each other, and there will be no charge for anything.
This “happening” is put together by the local Democratic Committee, and all are cordially invited to drop by for some lemonade, conversation and celebration.
