On Thursday, May 16, WVPT Public Television from Harrisonburg recognized ten young people at the Twelfth Annual Young Heroes Awards for outstanding achievement.
The “heroes” were from Albermarle, Amherst, Augusta, Rappahannock, Rockingham and Shenandoah Counties and the City of Harrisonburg.
The annual project honors individuals who have excelled in scholastics, athletics, civic involvement or cultural activities and have overcome a personal disadvantage.
The candidates are nominated by education personnel. family and friends who explain in an essay why the nominee should be a WVPT Young Hero.
Jessica Lee Nawrocki, a senior at Rappahannock County High School was chosen from this county.
“Jessica represents all of the best qualities that we hope for each of our student,” wrote her nominator, former RCHS Principal Joseph B. Perine.
