No question about it, this is art — with large doses of whimsy and old-fashioned usefulness at no extra charge.
Julie and Lance Huber, the dreamers responsible for Braeland Studios, are intent on creating a land filled with beautiful things for the home and garden. It is obvious from their work that they dream in color. Since 1995 this land has been flourishing quietly in an old packing shed in Flint Hill on US 211.
Imagine an asparagus teapot birdhouse in the garden, a giraffe doubling as a coat rack in the entryway, a chalkboard which looks like a telephone for the kitchen, or a rhinoceros-ascrayon holder sitting on the office desk. These are but a few of the 250 products the Hubers imagine, design and produce for pleasure —- theirs and their customers’.
In the beginning those customers were friends and family, the lucky recipients of the Hubers’ imagination. As they continued to indulge that market. some dreams began taking shape. Seven years ago Julie and Lance Huber came to Rappahannock to pursue those dreams. They moved their studio into the packing shed and began living the motto of Braeland Studios: “dedicated to imagination and play.”
