Much of the public comment was from Washington residents and from those living in the vicinity of the Town. Mayor Stew Willis was the first to respond to Planning Commission Chairman Tom Junk’s call for “comments from those against or who have questions,” and he said that he wished to “remind all that the Town of Washington has a very congested path” to the proposed site, and he added that this was especially true given the recent “(Town) Council voted to increase congestion.”
Also expressing concerns about traffic, and sometimes other issues, were Newbill Miller, Donna LaPre, Jack Jenkins, Yogi Bear, and Susan Babcock. Though no one commented during the “in favor” portion of the public hearing, Helen Dixon later expressed her support for the agricultural education opportunities represented by the Sunnyside Institute and for the assistance that these might offer to the economic well-being of local farmers.
Cliff Miller voiced his support for the concept presented by Mr. Cole and he said that he was enthusiastic about the plans for the institute and, finally, Phil Irwin reflected on the conformance of the proposal to the Comprehensive Plan, and he too expressed his support.
