Waterpenny Farm in Sperryville. The participants learned about planting from seeds, what a CSA is (community supported agriculture), and what waterpennies really are (they’re little bugs that live in water that can only survive if the water source 'is really pure—and they live at Waterpenny Farm). When asked about farming life, student Robert Falls reminded us, “Farms are really cool—but remember, there are good and bad bugs!”
Songwriting Workshop

Instructed by Paul Reisler and Lorraine Duisit, Songwriting was one of the coolest workshops held. Everyone was able to compose a song, and contributed to singing on all other songs on the CD they produced! They used the harp, guitar and autoharp. They made up songs about backyard pools, going to a party, and even about Cooter! Lauren Light said, “We all were afraid we were bad singers, but once we got started, we found out we were great!”

Workshop

Held at Fauquier High School in Warrenton, Photo Journalism was instructed by Tom Falkowski and interned by Ashley Corbin. We learned how to make photograms, to take good photographs using good compositions and lighting, and enlarge negatives in a dark room using developer, stop bath, and fixer. We interviewed each of the other workshops and got quotes from one of the students. Jon William Henry had only this to say about his photojournalism experience, “This camp is awesome!”
