Commissioners L.G. Zindeland Raymond Brown both disagreed with Mr. Henry’s suggestion that the facility wouldbe better located at Sunnysideu Farms’ main facility, and suggested that there would not be a significant traffic impact from the proposed facility. Mr. Zindel also objected to Mr. Henry’s call to reduce the intensity of the operation, saying that he did not think that the Commission “should be so restrictive to business.” Supervisor’s Representative Ron Frazier said that any impact could be controlled if parameters were set, and he proposed reducing the maximum number of conference days per month from twelve to ten.
Chairman Junk suggested restricting conference subjects to agricultural issues, but Mr. Cole said that “that would be a challenge” because he intends to convene Board meetings of various organizations there and to host “family events.” He noted too that the Institute focuses on sustainability in many areas, not just agriculture, but that they are all related.
The motion to recommend approval of the application was forwarded by Mr. Zindel, with a number of conditions and subject to approval of the final site plan. All Commissioners voted in favor, with the exception of Mr. Henry who said that, “I find it hard to believe . .. with all of the input from the public on traffic ... to give carte blanche. . .”
