The county came out to celebrate Werner Krebser's life in a memorial service last Saturday morning that was at times overwhelming with sadness and yet uplifting, as a dozen of his friends shared memories of "Doc" over the years.
The influence Dr. Krebser had in the lives of those who, spoke and those who listened was a tribute to this Swiss-born physician, who made Rappahannock County his home for the past 40 years.
One after another, speakers shared memories and told anecdotes that frequently brought laughter to offset the silent moments overtaken by grief. Each spoke of how much "Doc" will be missed in their lives.
The service, arranged by Krebser’s wife Fran, was held under a white tent on the grounds of the Flint Hill Public House where Krebser over the years lunched with his friends in the "Lunch Bunch."
Krebser died June 6 at his home in Flint Hill at the age of 75 afte’r a battle with cancer.
