Maggie smiles as she discusses the intricacies of each variety of coffee bean, holding them in her hand and noting the variations and uniqueness of each.
As she speaks, the aroma of coffee roasting is in the air and frequently visitors remark how “it really smells good in here,” she says. Tb her the smell seems more like oatmeal cookies.
Maggie knows the history of coffee, explaining that the first coffee bean was found in Ethiopia. When monks visited the area and saw the power and caffeine these beans held they took them along on their travels to Yemen. She said the story of the coffee bean is filled with murder and adventure.
“I get caught up in the romanticism of the growing of the beans. We all have our fun stuff, that’s why we’re in the business, to have fun.”
She feels her extensive knowledge of her family’s product should be expected of her and all other coffee stores. “It’s just like anything, you need to know the things about the materials you use.”
The family’s knowledge of the coffee industry began to grow after their eldest son Thicker left for college.
