In consecutive deeds recorded on July 25, the first Rappahannock County conservation easement of 2003 was granted to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation and the newly protected property was then transferred to new owners.
The deed of sale specifically referenced the easement gift indicating that the new owners understood and fully supported provisions of the easement.
The property was donated by Margaret Thomas and Nancy Wicker, and consisted of 25 acres along the Thornton River. The sisters, from New York and Massachusetts respectively, donated the land in remembrance of their late mother, an avid nature lover.
The property is especially important to the VOF because it is immediately opposite a 52acre parcel which FrancoisMarie and Linda Patomi donated in 2002. Together, these two easements protect both banks of a sweeping bend in the Thornton River.
The new easement is written as a water resources preservation document and prohibits future subdivision of the land. It
