Also discussed was an Exceptional River designation of waters for the Piney River and the North Fork of the Thornton, all within Shenandoah National Park's boundaries. After minimal discussion the board approved this Tier Three designation, to provide protection for the waterways.
Several of the 22 people present had audibly positive responses to this decision, with one person on the front row clapping, and another uttering a quiet, "Yes!"
In other discussion, the board addressed the possible sale of the former CarverPiedmont school in Culpeper. The property had been assessed, said County Administrator John McCarthy, at $400,000. This would result in $100,000 for each of the four school districts who shared ownership of the premises.
