Planning Commission member A1 Henry said many things may be considered in an attempt to slow traffic traveling on Route 522, including modified speed bumps, slower speed limits, and perhaps a median strip.
Planning Commission representative Jennifer Mathews of Flint Hill felt the problem of town traffic could be greatlyreduced simply by slowing it down. She said many large trucks would likely choose an alternate route if they knew 522 had slow’er speed limits.
She said these trucks, hauling things to nearbycities. are one of the town’s main traffic problems. “I know they have issues in Little Washington," she said, “but they don't have logging trucks coming through."
The board also addressed the town's industrial area, the former Aileen plant.
Board of Supervisors representative Roger Welch said the former factory will be downgraded from industrial zoning when it is sold. The acreage behind the buildings will be downgraded to. agricultural use. while the structure itself will become commercial.
