Many aging county residents may want to stay in the county, but to downsize their homes and the burden and cost of maintenance. At present, there are relatively few alternatives for those who might seek a smaller home, close to shops and services, medical care and emergency services.
Communities designed specifically for the aging population are springing up all across the country. (In the Washington Metro area, such age-restricted developments as Falls Run near Fredericksburg, Dunbarton and Heritage Hunt in Prince William County, are testimony to the trend.) While such large-scale developments seem inappropriate for Rappahannock County, a home-grown, small-scale version of this concept would provide seniors in the county with new opportunities for “aging in place” in beautiful Rappahannock.
