Monday, around 4 o’clock, the spray plane made a forced landing in the field of Bossy Williams while the cornfields of Flip Chaddell at the Black Rock Valley near Chester Gap were being sprayed. Cornfields in the vicinity of Flint Hill and Washington were sprayed this week by the airplane spray method with DDT to kill the Japanese beetles in the com. It is estimated that 300 to 400 acres of com were sprayed by this method.
Charles William Dodson, William Jackson Brown, James Miller Thornton, James Minor Settle, Jn, and Coolidge Gilcrest Groves were the five men from Rappahannock County who went to Fort Myer for examination on July 17. This was the first selective service call from the county.
The Julia Haygood Missionary Circle of Flint Hill Baptist Church met Friday at the home of Mrs. John S. Browning in Flint Hill.
