TYeasures of Rappahannock County come in many guises, not only . in its scenic beauty.
One such treasure is Julie Portman, an award-winning actress, playwright and accomplished storyteller who came to make her home in Rappahannock County some 20 years ago.
This weekend, Ki Theatre, of which Portman is founder and artistic director, will present a two-day event of theater and workshops devoted to the “The Power of Story in Our Lives and In Our Hands.”
“Julie,” as she is known, will kickoff this multiple event on Saturday, Nov. 15, with an 8 p.m. performance of “The Passion, Power and Promise in Your Story.” The workshops follow on Sunday, Nov. 16.
Portman sees stories as the fundamental creative language shared by all people, by the arts and in all communities. She is a gifted writer, performer, director and teacher.
She teaches “Life Stories Workshops” in the county and across the country, teaching individuals and organizations how to enhance the quality and creativity of their work and lives through story. For her earlier work as an actress, Julie won an Obie award, “Off Broadway’s” equivalent of a Tbny.
