Saturday, Nov. 8 began with the JV Championship. The energy in the gym was high as the two squads took the floor. Clarke County was undefeated in the district during the regular season and was only pushed to three games one time. The Panthers scored first and grained a 4-1 lead after one rotation. RCHS maintained a lead throughout most of the match but Clarke tied the score at 1919 and took the lead. The two teams battled back and forth with many long volleys as each team tried to win the first game, with Clarke eventually winning 25-23.
In the second game, the Panthers came out even stronger. Rappahannock outscored Clarke 12-3 after just two rotations. With RCHS ahead 23-13, Clarke began a rally, scoring six points in a row; however, it wasn’t enough and the Panthers won the second game 25-20.
The Panther win pushed the match to a third, deciding game played to 15. Neither team could take an early lead in the game; after five rotations the score was tied 7-7. Clarke then scored three in a row to take a lead. The two teams once again played hard, showing skills and making plays rarely seen at the .JV level.
