The proposed plan includes a six-lane regulation rubberized track facility around the current field.
Drainage improvements for the field by way of grading and support drainage facilities around the perimeter of the field area are also included.
Currently, bleachers to accommodate in excess of 500 people have been added. Additional bleachers could be added in the future if the Board wished to incorporate a , visitor section.
The plan currently includes four pole mounted lighting fixtures^ one for each comer of the field.
“This way they would be able to play at night,” interjected division superintendent, Dr. Bob Chappell.
Most Board members agreed that having six pole mounted fixtures would be even better but probably cost prohibitive.
The track, which is longer than it is wide, is regulation size but a snug fit.
“It's as tight in dimension as we can make it,” added Bernard who said that it is six feet from the Fletcher property line.
School Board member Rosa Crocker was concerned that no fencing around the facility was included in the plan.
“That is something that could certainly be added later,” said Bernard, “but we didn't put it in now because of the cost factor.”
Rappahannock High School principal, Roger Mello, expressed his view.
“I'd really like to see the fencing done as well when the fields are put in,” said Mello. “One joy ride and you could be looking at a lot of damage.”
Board members didn't disagree.
Another item not shown on the plan is a concession stand/announcement box, again, another feature that could be added later.
Two parking areas are planned that would accommodate 91 cars with two handicapped spaces.
