Irish Jo Ik music
The public is invited to a free musical performance on Sunday, Nov, 16 from 1 to 4 p m. at the Old Sperryville Bookshop. Drop in anytime between those hours to enjoy tunes performed on acoustic guitar by Dominic Preston, a native of Dublin, Ireland who now makes his home in Northern Virginia. “The Visual Arts as Story: Discovering Stories We Make With Our Hands”— three nationally-recognized artists conduct three-hour sculpting, collage and weaving workshops for a day of wonder and artistic expression on Nov. 16 from 9 a m. to 4:30 p m. lecture on Egypt
The next Global Spotlight program will be given at Rappahannock High School on Thursday, Nov. 20. Monira Rifaat, a native of Egypt, will speak on “Egypt Today: Changing Times in an Ancient Land." The lecture is given twice, once in the morning to the upper classmen as part of their social studies class and again in the evening for the community at large. This is the second in a series of programs organized by Global Spotlight, a part of the Headwaters Foundation. Plan to attend for a discussion about the Nile, Nubia, Sinai Peninsula, the Red Sea, the Suez Canal, Coptic and Islamic traditions. Egyptian art and artifacts will be on display. Refreshments, including Egyptian delicacies will be served at 7:30 p.m. Lecture will start at 8 p.m.
Christmas in Washington
Everyone is invited to “A Chnstmas in Little Washington" which will be celebrated Dec. 5, 6 and 7. There will be something for everyone to enjoy: live theatre, a colonial dinner, caroling, a visit from Santa, art shows, a Chnstmas bazaar, Sweet Shoppe, special Saturday movie matinee, a jazz guitar concert, special events in all of the shops and open houses m the B & Bs RAAC welcomes everyone to share in the joy of the season in a quaint country setting. Sidney Dodson fund
On Sunday Dec 7 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. there will be Gospel Bands providing music at Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church. There will be food available and all proceeds and donations will go to the Sidney Dodson Cerebral Palsy Fund.
Dance classes
Oriental dance classes with Charmame Lee will be held every Tuesday night through Dec. 16 at the Belle Meade School House, Route 231, south of Sperryville at 6 p.m. The cost is $72 for the whole senes of six classes and $15 per class. Please bring a mat. Call 800-578 6678 for more information. v
