Were any articles written by the press suggesting such depravation might be a “transforming” experience for Americans so they could better empathize with the poor Iraqis people? Consider how Americans would react if they had to go without such amenities for a month, and heaven forbid, six months.
Further, imagine your house' has been partially or wholly destroyed bv your “liberator” (Americans forced out of their homes during the 1930s in the Blue Ridge Mountains to create the Shenandoah National Park are still bitter today). Thanks to your liberator you have no job and innocent members of your family or of friends’ families or neighbors have been killed by foreign troops who can’t speak your language, and insult your culture and traditions by the way they behave. In fact, they have not a clue about your society. And now you have to come to them to beg for work, or bread or compensation for destruction they caused to your property.
Why is it so hard to understand that our worst enemy, the third force creating every day more local angry people willing to deceive and kill Americans and foreigners is— you guessed it—ourselves? The American occupiers and their political masters, besotted by their own certitudes and unshakably confident in their own virtue, can only imagne “dead-ender Batthists” and A1 Qaeda fanatics—certainly not liberated freedom-loving Iraqis.
