This was the successful result of two years of hard work by a group of committed community volunteers whose vision is now benefiting this community.
The program had its origin in programs organized world wide, and its benefits to both young people and mature adults, is immeasurable.
Mentoring is a word that is synonymous with trusted friend, adviser and wise person. In Rappahannock. 19 children have been matched with trained. caring "mentors” through Starfish.
In March 2001. the Starfish program grew enough to require paying a program coordinator and it successfully sought grant monies under Headwaters. Ellen iNeill-Dore) Adams, who was a current and founding memher of the executive committee, took over this role.
This past August, in order to finish up a masters' degree in community counseling, she handed her responsibilities over to Carol Lucking. Lucking conies to the program with a masters in Counseling and Human Resources, an undergraduate degree in Community Leadership and Development and Psychology, and a varied
