Aside from becoming snagged in worst places, a ring that becomes crushed or bent will most likely have to be cut off your finger (Hopefully, you're finger will get lo stay). And while the fender makes a convenient resting place for tools during a repair, never leave loose objects near a running engine. If they slide in where they’re not supposed to, they can be launched with deadly force, or, become jammed between moving belts, pulleys, etc., causing extensive damage.
