Rappahannock artist, Patton Wilson's painting, ‘Triad," has been awarded top prize in the First Annual National Casein Painting Competition.
The competition, open to all American artists, was sponsored by American Artist Magazine, Jack Richeson Co., and the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic.
Casein has been used by artists as a painting medium for 9,000 years. Around 1150, the German monk, Theophilus, documented the recipe and until the advent of oil paints in the 15th century, casein was the primary artist’s medium.
Also this year, Wilson had two paintings juried into the Butler Institute of American Art’s 67th Midyear Exhibition. , This prestigious national exhibition is a survey of current trends in American painting.
About five percent of the artists submitting work are accepted. Wilson had a painting accepted last year as well.
