The panelists appeared Saturday morning at a forum on "Saving Streams and Stopping Soil Erosion" at the Washington Fire Hall. This well-attended meeting, jointly sponsored by Rapp-FLOW and RLEP (Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection), attracted some 50 citizens interested in how one can protect and restore streams and ponds through vegetative buffers; how vegetation, landscaping, correct driveway design, and riff-raff work to protect water quality and wildlife; how small streams affect the overall watershed and rivers downstream; what citizens and students are doing to assist in this effort; and how to get support from various agencies to achieve these goals at each farm and home.
