Clearly frustrated at the General Assembly leaving Richmond before reaching an agreement on the state’s budget after 63 days, Warner said on Tuesday “some have suggested that Virginia can afford to wait - that legislators should go home and ‘cool off” for a few weeks.... That would be wrong.”
He said “the people expect better, and they should not have to wait for vacationing legislators to return to work.”
Virginia legislators were unable to reach a budget, compromise this week, even with a three-day extension past Saturday’s deadline.
The House of Delegates, the Virginia Senate and the governor all agree revenue has to be increased to fulfill the commonwealth’s core commitments, but they have, yet to agree on an acceptable amount of increase and just who should pay these additional levies.
Late on Tuesday, the houses also could not agree on whether to adjourn. The Senate voted to stay until Friday and the House voted to leave. Under
