The Theatre at Little Washington will present a program on Saturday, March 27 well suited to this Presidential election year.
Oscar Brand, a celebrated folksinger and guitarist, scriptwriter, lyricist and broadcaster will perform at 8 p.m., “Ballads and Ballots,” a show which features songs from prior presidential campaigns at The Theatre, which is located on Gay Street in the Town of Washington. '
Brand is one of the leading experts on American political songs. His Smithsonian Folkways recording, “Presidential Campaign Songs 1789-1996,” is among the Smithsonian’s most popular recordings. As the recording points out, ‘attack ads,’ ‘character assassinations,’ and ‘spin doctors’ are not new in American Presidential campaigns. Before radio and television, campaign i songs were written and pub1, lished to transmit similar ideas t. and influence voters.”
