Major Lewis J. Poore who spent his “formative years” in Rappahannock County has been ordered to prepare for his second deployment to Iraq as the troubled nation searches for stability.
Poore, 36, who graduated from Wakefield School in Flint Hill in 1986 and won an Army commission in the Reserve Officer’s Training Course at Elon University in North Carolina, expects to return to Iraq in midsummer with the 3rd Infantry Division.
As a youngster, Poore lived at Ashtree Stables on Route 211, still run by his mother Phyllis Poore. The farm boards riding horses and provides riding lessons.
He and his twin brother Lee were here in boyhood. His brother who went to James Madison University is now in the telecom business in Alexandria, Va.
