Postal Service on Feb. 28, 1881, and remained open until Feb. 28, 1925. Charles W. Hawkins who ran the mill across the road, was Postmaster all those years, and needless to say, people called the village Hawkins Mill more than they called it Olive.
In those days you handed your mail to a man on a horse. Now, you can send mail almost anywhere with the click of a mouse.
