By Karen Chaffraix Rappahannock News Staff Writer As of .today, July 1, private employers in Virginia are required by law to give non-managerial employees Sundays oft, if they ask for it. The “Day of Rest” law is part of the so-called Blue Laws enacted in 1974. Most businesses in the state have been exempt from the law for the last 30 years. As of tomorrow, however, those exemptions no longer exist. How and what happened remains unclear, but it seems as if the 2004 General Assembly, in an attempt to repeal some or all of the Blue Laws, has repealed its exemptions instead.
