the Senate:
• “Pro-tax?” Nobody is protax. But all of us want good roads, good schools, clean water, security from terrorists, poverty, ill-health, and unemployment and so on. If you cut federal taxes, state and local taxes have to take up the slack. It is misleading to call Mr. Kerry “pro-tax”: his platform calls only for returning to earlier tax levels for the very wealthy while middle income voters would see a reduction m taxes.
• “Pro-abortion?” No woman I know is “pro-abortion:” they are for a woman’s right to choose, a choice not made lightly. In supporting this right Mr. Kerry agrees with the majority of American women.
• “Anti-Second Amendment?” No one, even the most “liberal” is “anti-Second Amendment.” We respect the “right of the people to keep and bear arms” but we believe that a balancing of interests may require some reasonable restrictions. Mr. Kerry is a gun owner and hunter. Nothing in his record suggests that he would try to prevent any of us from owning and using guns for security, target practice, hunt-, ing or any other legitimate use.
