similar to that of a stroke. “His eyes were drooping, he was drooling, and his tongue was so swollen he couldn’t speak or eat or drink,” said his wife. “I didn’t even know what to do for him. It was very scary.”
Jenkins lost 14 pounds and still has trouble eating. His treatment will extend beyond the 30 day norm, and may go 60 days or longer. His medicine is given intravenously, and a nurse comes once a week to help him with his medication and change his bandage at the insertion site.
Both Jenkins and his wife hope that anyone who finds a tick on themselves will be extra careful. “They are so small. You almost need a microscope to see them,” she said. “We wouldn’t wish this on our worst enemy.”
