Nick Compton and Eric Phillips led the Rappahannock defense in tackles, with five each. For the second straight game, Compton led the Panthers in rushing, with 69 yards on 14 carries.

“When we play teams or our own level, we’ll do just fine,” Pullin said. “They (Bassett) are one of the most impressive high school teams I’ve ever seen.”

The 1-1 Panthers travel to Berryville Friday, Sept. 10, to play the Clarke County Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles dropped their season opener at Stonewall Jackson, 29-30, in overtime Sept. 3.

“We go back to reality next week. We’re a new team, but we can compete,” Pullin said. “We’ve got just as good a chance of beating Clarke as they do of beating us.”
