with John Jackson and his wife, Cora. Perdue was instrumental in getting Jackson gigs and the two families merged in a lasting friendship that lasted until Jackson’s death in 2002.
Perdue spoke lovingly and kindly at the gathering about the man and his music and his struggles.
“Things have changed since John and I first met in October 1964,” said Perdue as he gazed out on the fields of green that once were home to Jackson and his family long ago. “Things weren’t easy for Black families living in Rappahannock then,”
