DUI near Woodville
August 20, 2:00 a.m. Claumer Garcia was driving his 1998 Chevy S10 pickup on Rt. 522 just south of Woodville when he lost control, ran off the left side of the road and overcorrected striking a sign and a tree on the opposite side of the road. ’
When State Trooper Derek Mauck responded to the crash, Garcia was not present and had left his truck at the scene. Garcia was eventually located at a nearby residence and charged with driving without an operator's license and DUI.
Learning curve
August 20, 4:40 p.m. A 17- year -old from Rappahannock County driving north bound on Rt-729 lost control of her 1995 Nissan 200SX as she approached a curve in the road.
The driver over corrected and crossed back over the centerline colliding with a 2004 Chevy Blazer driven by Susan Lynne.
Both cars sustained heavy damage and the drivers were transported to Fauquier Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
State Trooper Don Corbin charged the juvenile driver with reckless driving, with driver inexperience believed to be the major factor in the accident.
Less heat - more tickets
The State Police In-House Task Force was in operation over the weekend, patrolling US-211 and Rt-647.The task force re-distributes State police duties to allow more patrol on high accident areas in and around Rappahannock County.
Troopers had felt that hot weather was keeping many motorists away from the county over the previous weekends of the task force s deployment, but last weekend was comparatively cooler.
“We think this weekend was a good gauge,” said State Police First Sergeant Gary Settle.
Police involved with the task force issued 50 tickets over the weekend, a great deal more than the 29 from last weekend.
