Despite his three days of dominance, Hall finished in what he later termed a “nailbiter.” On the final day of the Potomac Everstart, the summer heat returned, and Hall caught only three fish, while his next closest competitor ,Rick Morris of Lanexa, YA, had his best day in the tournament, beating everyone else's catch by for the day by more than three pounds. Hall was the last fisherman to weigh in his catch on the last day, an he didn't know if he’d caught enough to win with his total catch weight for the tournament.
“Everyone was tense until I pulled my final bass out of the bag weighing around 4and 1/2 pounds,” recalled Hall. But Hall had won by two and half pounds. Winning big doesn't mean that Hall has forgotten his roots however.
“My mother Hazel and father Ivan have been wonderful encouragers. They have always told me to keep fishing and one day I would win the big one,” said Hall who shared his success with them.
“It was quite a thrill to go down to Sperryville last Sunday and thank my parents for all the years of their encouragement and show them my trophy” said Hall.
