good strategy, and as you can see, it did work. The thing about tidal waters is that if you find a patch of fish, you can catch them day after day if you go about it right. They move, but they don't move very far.” revealed Hall.
According to Hall, this ability to understand fish dates from his days trout fishing in the Rush and Thornton rivers..
“Much of my bass fishing skill came from all the years of trout fishing,” explained Hall.
“It was quite a shock when one day my father challenged me to go out and see how I would do against the best BASS fisherman in the world. My first professional BASS tournament was a Megabucks tournament in Leesburg, Florida in 1987. You might call that first tournament a learning experience. In 1989 I fished the Megabucks again and had a great tournament, coming in 9th one day, and ending up with a win of $5,000,” recalled Hal.
Hall was also assisted in his win by his choice of equipment. For bait, he used 5 inch Yamamoto Senko lures rigged “wacky style”, meant to simulate the 5 inch long shad that is the customary prey of the Potomac largemouth bass. Considering the weather at the tournament, his choice of boat also affected his performance. ■
