solitary hunting wasps. There is just one female doing all the building and hunting and egg laying, for each nest. This wasp builds a mud nest with many small compartments in it. In each compartment, she lays one egg. Then, she goes out to find something that the larvae can feed on, once it hatches. This is where the ‘hunting’ comes in. (Remember, one of the basic distinctions between wasps and bees is that, with few exceptions, wasps feed their larvae meat and bees feed their larvae honey.)
