Owners of note include wealthy sportsman Joseph B. Thomas who did an extensive renovation in 1911, adding carved fox mask cornices, a magnificent 32x18 foot oval dining room, an exquisite staircase, and British inspired, courtyard stables with kennels for 160 foxhounds.
The current and new owner is long-time area resident, Dr. Betsee Parker, a Minnesota native. The property was in decline and in much need of work when she bought it. Under her watchful eye, Huntland is being restored to its former grandeur.
Parker is involved in the extensive renovations. Her mission is to preserve the home’s historic past honoring the horse-andhound traditions of Joseph B. Thomas. Thomas, she says, left his mark on the Piedmont through his great contributions to the sporting way of life.
