However, in recent months, McAuliffe and Moran have bombarded media outlets with he-said, he-said press releases supporting Kaine’s record as governor.
A statement released in late April by McAuliffe’s campaign with the headline “Really?” — reads:
“In their latest attack on Terry McAuliffe, Brian Moran’s campaign has deliberately misconstrued McAuliffe’s statements about the job creation record of Governor Mark Warner and Governor Tim Kaine.
“In fact, McAuliffe has daily praised the work Governors Warner and Kaine have done to create jobs and stabilize Virginia’s economy.’’
This was followed in May bv a statement from Moran’s newsletter, the “Pinocchio Report”:
“Terry McAuliffe consistently says that he, as Chairman of the DNC, gave $5 million from the DNC to then-Lt. Governor Tim Kaine’s campaign for Governor. According to news reports today, this seems to be another exaggeration.”
Even Creigh Deeds is trying to get in on the action, biting at the ankles of McAuliffe, who is leading the three-way primary in campaign donations.
As great and lovable as Kaine may be. he is not running for governor this year, and this type of petty bickering is a discredit to the solutions-oriented approach that Kaine and his equally beloved predecessor, Sen. Mark Warner '!)), have touted for the past eight years.
With the Democratic primary just weeks away, it’s time to get serious. How can voters make an informed choice among these three hopefuls without knowing what they stand for? And will any of them be ready for a serious campaign against Republican candidate Robert McDonnell, who has been spreading his message unopposed for nearly a year, if they can’t get past the petty arguing?
We’re sure Kaine would not approve.
