At a recent meeting of the Board
of Supervisors, Ron Frazier made a motion to approve the school budget by category. This would enable the county to more efficiently oversee the spending of tax-payer dollars.
The recent example of the Ameresco Performance Contract vividly demonstrates this issue. Left to their own devices, the School Board would have committed the county to spending 4.3 million dollars (including interest) to replace light Fixtures, windows, and upgrade the heating/AC systems in two schools. The question arises, w hy weren't the heating systems properly maintained from year-to-year, as thousands of tax dollars had already been appropriated for just that reason?
