Mason said he started playing in the 60s in a band called The John Wells Delegation. Their music at the time was very much influenced by The Byrds (which launched the careers of David Crosby and Gram Parsons among others), and Jim Croce.
He then turned “Nashville” playing with the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Poco, Rick Derringer and John Mellencamp.
His first album, “River Deep in Me,” was released in 1992. In 1993, Mason won the Grand Prize at the Tenth Annual Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest, and in 1997 he recorded his second solo album, “48 States of Love.”
The lead song on “Loveland” — Love and the Truth - will be featured in the independent film “Recluse."
Most recently, Mason found that he likes composing personal songs, and performing them, for events like weddings.
In addition to the performance on May 30 at the Stonewall Abbey, Mason will perform at the “Tezfest" — put on by local musician Dontez - on June 27.
