Will Compete' For State
Honors At V.P.I.

Last week Newbill Miller and Gordon Thompspn tied for high honors out of over 100 other FFA and 4-H boys from northern Virginia in the annual FFA—4-H club beef cattle judging contest at Winchester. The lads received $9 in cash awards. Both of these boys are only freshmen in vocational agriculture and in the, writer’s estimation will bear watching during their next three years of FFA work. .
Many people think that with the close of school FFA activities cease. This is far from true since the summer offers one of the best times for our varied activities. Nearly every FFA boy has one or more enterprises (such as coni, pigs, poultry, calves, etc.,) oh his 4 home farm which he keeps records on even during summer months. This is an essential part of his agricultural training program.
On June 19, a livestock judging team, composed of Edwin Scroggins, Newbill Milter, and Gordon Thompson, along with their coach, Gene Wagner, will go to V.P.I. to participate in the statewide FFA judging contests. Over 1100 boys from all parts of Virginia will attend.
