Weldon James Visits

Weldon James, associate editor of the Louisville (Ky.) Times and Courier, accompanied by county agent, W. H. Lyne, was a visitor at the News office Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. James is the author of an. article “There’s Gold in Them Thar Quills’’ which appeared in the April Readers Digest, having been condensed from Pageant (September *49) in which be related an interview with the millionnaire king of the South African ostrich fanners, Max Rose, living in the Oudtshoorn District of Cape Province which accounts for 99.99 percent of all the ostrich feathers sold in the world. According to Mr. James’ inter-i view, the average take per bird is $40.00, but farmers have high hopes this will jump to *$80.00. Excess ostrich eggs, according to the article, sell for $2 each.
Mr. James is a brother of W. L. James, who purchased the farm of the late Gillie Putnam, near Amissville about a year Ago.
Paynes Discontinue
Grocery Store
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Payne, proprietors of Payne’s Grocery Store, will close out their ucsiness on Saturday, June: 17. All of the groceries and other stock on hand will be sold to customers at cost, along with some restaurant equipment.
The Main Street Restaurant was operated by Mr. and Mrs. Payne in the same building for a period of two years prior to the opening of the grocery store last September. /
Mr. Payne is, engaged in paint
contracting at’ the present time.
