Fiom its first session as a four | year high school until the present one, Spenryville has .been accredited by the State Board of Education. Because of a drop in enrollment below the minimum figure recently established^ Sperryville was, for the session noyj closing, a certified .high school.

For many years before the con,'atruction of the Lee Highway, Or U. S. 211, the original building, 'of four rooms, faced the river, and then, as now, year after year, plank boards of the footbridge .echoed with the sound of footsteps of hundreds of not always , eager boys and girls; Following the construction of the new road, close to the schoolhouse, the building, whfch, in 1924 or 1925 had been enlarged by four more rooms, •was moved to its present location, facing the mountains. Few school buildings in all the country have ' a more picturesque setting; the Blue Ridge mountains a mile or so away in front and a branch of the Thornton River forming one _ .Jjoundary of th® school grounds. The local citizens take all this for granted; visitors never cease to comment on the beauty of the surroundings.

In 1936, with Federal aid, an auditorium-gymnasium was added at the rear of the main building and this addition has more than justified its cost. With the exception of the two years it was. not in use, because of a disastrous fire, it has served the school and community as a center and meeting place where programs of many kinds have been offered the people of the county. In it have been' held, besides regular school assemblies, church services, plays, movies, basketball games, dances, carnivals and fairs.

The school library, which had on its shelves less than a hundred volumes in 1920, now boasts nearly five thbasand bboks.~TETs number includes, of course, books * suitable particularly for pupils in' the primary and elementary grades.' In addition to the bound
