Frequently ne stops to renew his energy with a cool drink of water or food from the knapsack. His hands are cut by jagged sticks, his knees are torn open when he stumbles into a leaf-covered hole.
There are but a few climbing with him now. The others have found the undertaking too difficult and have fallen by the wayside.
Shielding ihs eyes from the sun, he looks around him. Choosing a path he moves upward. Not worrying about whether he can surmount the difficulties in the way for he knows he must and he wilL His eyes are on the goal.
We who have just finished high school are beginning to climb this mountain. At the summit lies success, not measured in our minds by dollars and cents, by power and prominence,, but in our hearts by what we have contributed to thq advancement of mankind.'
Let us not be like the first youth who having made no prepay rations, gathered no provisions, found the way too hard, the heights too distant. Nor shall we seek a short cut, for there are no short cuts to true success.
Rather let us be dike the second youth who went forth well prepared. On the way we shall stop to renew our energy, to feed our souls as well as our bodies.
We shall never be too busy climbing to stop and help a fellow vclimber in distress.
