A Tribute,

It has been my extreme pleasure to be associated with the members of the Washington High School for the pfist five montns. During the short period of time, I have learned to know and respect the Links with a great deal of admiration. I’ve had an opportunity to observe what the Links are doing and have done for the education of the Rappahannock youth.
If you were to sit on the bench during one of the basketball games, you would know the tremendous amount of enthusiasm and interest that Mr. Link has for Washington High School. Many of the schools that our teams play have many more students than we. Through the excellent coaching of Mr. Link, our school has established a record that would make any school proud. This past basketball season, I had the opportunity ef attending most of the games; I was introduced to many of the visiting coaches. In their, games with Washington High School, they told me that eur boys and girls have shown good sportsmanship and keen competition. This is a mark of distinction for any coach.
Mr. Link understands the needs of the type of student that attends our school. Taking this in consideration, he has established a well-rounded curriculum including practical educational subjects that the students can use after leaving school. The boys have the opportunity of taking agriculture and vocational training; the girls learn the fundamentals of cooking and sewing by taking home economics. Both groups have such academic subjects as history, English, mathematics, science, and Latin.
From my conversations with the Links, I know that they both are progressive in their thinking. Mrs. Link has expressed an ardent desire that the school have a course in practical chemistry. I understand that Mr. Link has made every effort to supplement the curriculum by including a commercial department. Because of the shortage of teachers, lack of space, and money this has been impossible.
