Another Milestone
Last night and Tuesday night wrote finis to the two high schools of Rappahannock. The final commencements have been held. Next year there will be one—Rappahannock County High School.
This is progress, that is known. The new consolidated high school will be able to offer advantages that , were impossible in two separate schools. Pupils of the entire ‘ county will be together and learn, while still young, to know the folks in other communities of the county. They will learn that by working together more can be done. There will be countless advantages for the good of all.
But let no one think that there was not good in the old system. There are advantages, also, in the smaller school. Those who still advocate return to the one-room red-echoolhouse also have their list of advantages.
There are those who think that part of the advantages named now exist in nostalgic recall—and pos. sibly they are correct. Just as the age-old “gimme the good-ole days” always brings a recitation of the advantages, minus the disadvantages.
