If you happen to visit Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Jr. in Sperryville you are liable to find them down on their knees. Don’t be alarmed, for they are just trying to beat the ground mice and squirrels to the chestnut trees. The Johnson's have 80 chest nut trees from which they harvest about 1,500 pounds of nuts each year. The trees are a cross of the old American chestnut with a blight resistant Chinese strain.
