Ordinance To Close
Dance Halls Sundays
The Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County have passed an ordinance prohibiting dance halls in the county to remain open past midmgm on Saturday. This action took place at the regular October meeting Friday. Commonwealth's Attorney George H. Davis, Jr. and Trooper W. A. Buntin appeared before the Board in regard to the great number of accidents occurring late Saturday nights or early Sunday mornings due to late hours allowed by the Board for public dance halls. After a through discussion, an ordinance was passed, stating it to be unlawful to operate a public dance hall between the hours of 12;01 a.m and midnight Sunday, Violation of the ordinance would bring a fine of not less than $50 and not more than $500. This legislation will become effective Oct. 17. Chairman J. Newbill Miller had been informed that hearings would begin October 6 in Richmond for fixing salaries and expenses of county officials for 1965.
At present the Board had received only one request for a salary increase, that from Robert L. Brown, County Trea* surer who asked for an increase of $1,200 for himself and $360 for his deputy'plus $355 for expenses.
The Chairman was requested to write a letter to the State Compensation Board informing it that the Board of Supervisors of R a p p a h a n n o c k L County opposed any increases which may be requested.
