was Sundav. July 3. 1881. My brother and I heard men sitting on .the big flat rock in front of the church talking excitedly of the assassination of President Garfield in Washington the day before. The news had just seeped through from man to man/’ “ From this home my brother and I heard the call to preach and from our rural schools, went away to graduate from Richmond College and Crozer Seminary in Chester, Pa. We always sat together, using the same books.*’ In addition to serving in the North Carolina Baptist church for forty years, Mr. Morgan has written thousands of treatises and articles for hundreds of periodicals across the .country, several with circulation figues near the million figure. His correspondence, carefully preserved, counts in the thousands of pieces. Mr Morgan was recently a recipient of a bushel of apples from a local orchardist which he shared with the other residents of the Home. A letter of appreciation signed by the various men and women expressed an interest in the crops and other industry of the place "which we are told is an area of the loveliest natural scenery to be found anywhere". It is quite evident that Mr. Morgan is an ardent admirer of his native county. He further stated "I t i s a comfort on my 93rd birthday to reflect that something I've written may go on doing good after I’m in heaven. So may each of us go on helping others at least by the influence of the words and deeds given out while we live”.
