On Foliage Colors
Even though cool, rainy weather during most of last week may have slowed fall color changes in Shenandoah National Park to some degree, definite signs of the annual transformation are becoming increasingly more visible, Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins indicated today. By next weekend the bright flashes of fall foliage should light up the slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains within full view of those traveling SkyHine... Drive, although^ it is noi expected that the full brilliance will have been reached at that time, according to Hoskins. Recalling that during the weekend of October 15-16 last year there were more than 80,000 visits to the Park, Hoskins suggested that those who are able to travel to the Park during the week will find less traffic and accommodations easier to find. By districts the color situation as of Monday was as follows:
North (Froht Royal to U. S. 211) - Becoming more noticeable daily are the yellowing of the oaks and hickories, intermixed with the brilliant red of the Virginia Creeper and dogwood.
